Saskatchewan’s effort to engage all providers, patients and families in improving health care is being shared with a global audience this week at the 2013 International Forum on Quality and Safety in Health Care, in London, England.
This morning, Bonnie Brossart, CEO of the province’s Health Quality Council, delivered to an audience of some 350 improvement leaders a presentation entitled “Acting as one for one million: Hoshin Kanri in Saskatchewan, Canada.” In it, she described how Saskatchewan has been using a comprehensive and inclusive process to engage the health care system through collaboratively determining goals, establishing improvement plans, and monitoring progress through transparency and measurement.
“It’s an honour to share our unfolding story with quality improvement leaders from across the globe,” says Brossart. “People here are very impressed with both our ambition, and how we have embraced thinking and acting as one.”
The International Forum is an annual event sponsored by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and the British Medical Journal (BMJ). The event is attended by the world’s leading thinkers and practitioners of healthcare quality improvement.
