Norman Opekokew

Norman started his career in health in the early 1990s with the Meadow Lake Tribal Council. He served as a community development work for nine First Nations communities as they were preparing to take over health delivery from the federal government.
After the transfer of services was accomplished, he worked within his home community as the first director of health. In this role, he brought many services to the community, including nursing, addictions support, community health and transportation programs. He served in this role for over 25 years. During this time, he also served as a board member of the Keewatin YatheƩ Regional Health Authority.
Norman is married and has five children, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He continues to serve his community members in health.
