Chief Executive Officer of province’s Health Quality Council taking reins at Saskatchewan Medical Association

Dr. Susan Shaw, chair of the province’s Health Quality Council, announced today that Bonnie Brossart is stepping down as that organization’s Chief Executive Officer to become CEO of the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA). Brossart takes the reins at the SMA effective January 5, 2015.

Brossart has been with HQC since the agency opened its doors in 2003 and has served as CEO since 2007. Before taking the helm, she was Interim CEO for five months and Deputy CEO for three years; Brossart helped lead the Saskatchewan Chronic Disease Management Collaborative, at that time one of the province’s largest quality improvement initiatives ever undertaken.

“On behalf of the HQC board, I want to acknowledge Bonnie’s strong leadership of this organization, and her unwavering commitment to improving care for the patients of Saskatchewan,” said Dr. Shaw. “We are sorry to be losing her, but feel fortunate that she will be bringing her same passion for better, safer care to another key agency in our health care system.”

The HQC board anticipates having an interim CEO in place by early November. The goal is to have a new permanent CEO in place by mid-2015.

“HQC is firmly committed to the continuous improvement path we are on, as part of the Saskatchewan Health Care Management System,” said Dr. Shaw. “Bonnie’s successor will have an important role to play, overseeing our agency’s ongoing work to support and coordinate the efforts of health regions to make health care better and safer.”
